Theo - Ardennes Before we got our horsepower from engines, we had the real thing. Working horses had to be strong, tough, and dependable, all of which describe the Ardennes. A powerful draft horse native to France, the Ardennes is one of the oldest draft horse breeds. Originating in the Ardennes region of France and Belgium, these horses had to be hardy to work the rough terrain which was laden with forests and hills. They were also used during times of war. They provided transport during Napoleon's 1812 Russian campaign, and pulled artillery for the French and Belgian armies in World War I. The muscular and heavy-boned Ardennes stands just 15-16hh, yet can weight up to 2,200 pounds! Bay and roan coats are most commonly seen, but they may also be chestnut, grey, and palomino. The modern Ardennes is most often seen working alongside man in both farming and forestry. BREYER TRADITIONAL SERIES | THEO ARDENNES: Before we got our horsepower from engines, we had the real thing.
